The work is called Work. It´s about work. Work as something in itself, as a living field, both connected and selfcontained with its own focus: to move boxes of melons with a forklift from here to there, to paint that house, to combine Santa Claus and cotton snow with Murakami in a shop window, in an aesthetically pleasing way.

John Baldessaris The Pencil Story is one of my favourite pieces of art. It was made in 1972-73. I was five then, and knew nothing about it until much later. The pencil to the left looks like something I could have found in my fathers tool box. What is it with this work?
